Ferretti Group - Ferretti Yachts - Ferretti Custom-line
Like many yachting companies, Feretti Yachts grew out of related passions by their founding fathers. Norberto Ferretti and his brother Alessandro were working at their father's new car dealership which specialized in high-end sports cars, including Ferraris. Like all young men in their 20's, they spent much of their idle time cruising the Dalmatian coast where they developed first a love for sailing and then for power boats.
When you research many prominent powerboat companies, a majority have a base in sailing yachts. It is my feeling that the foundation and grace of sailboats give a base to the future designs of the best powerboats.
The first boats they built in 1968 were sail assisted fishing vessels built in wood and fitted for luxury cruising. They then designed and built a line of sailboats. Their love of high end sports cars was reflected in the quality and finish of their boats. This commitment to quality attracted the attention of Luciano Mochi, a renowned yacht builder in Italy. Mochi saw one of the Ferretti sailboats at a Boat Show and commented that they should expand into the powerboat market. He also told Norberto that building power boats was much more difficult to do, which Norberto took as a lifelong challenge. In 1975 Ferretti delivered their first fiberglass yacht, an Altura 33 sail boat. In the early 1980s the Ferretti brothers started building their first motor yachts with strong commitment not only to design but to the engineering and technical details of the yachts. This soon made them a standout in the field of power yachts.
Their dedication and love of innovation and engineering led them to create an advanced design and naval research center, AYT-Advanced Yacht Technology. This led them, in 1989, to offshore power boat racing to prove and advance their designs and eventually on to the Class 1 Offshore World Championships.
This background in sailboats, exotic cars and offshore racing has combined to allow Ferretti to create some of the best performing, well-engineered and most comfortable motor yachts in their class. The standard Ferretti line has the following models: 450 Ferretti/550 Ferretti/650 Ferretti/700 Ferretti/750 Ferretti/780 Project Ferretti/800 Ferretti/850 Ferretti/870 Ferretti/ 920 Project Ferretti and the 960 Ferretti.
