My name is Mike Sharpe. I have owned Ocean Yachting International for 10 years, and I specialize in yacht brokerage, yacht charter, and yacht consultancy. As a Captain for over 20 years and with well over 200,000 miles sailing offshore, I have used that experience to assist clients in all aspects of yacht ownership from an in-house, hands-on perspective. That has proved worthwhile to many clients. I classify myself as a Buyer’s Broker and Buyer’s Advocate, but occasionally act as seller’s broker. I will list vessels for sale, based on the quality of the vessel and the reality of the seller. I will not deal with listings based on unrealistic asking prices.
I feel it is critical as a yacht broker to have the experience that allows me to offer my clients any or all of the services that they might need after making the purchase of their yacht. If you have the knowledge and contacts that allow you do without my assistance, well and good, but for many first time buyers or buyers stepping up in size, I am available to assist you on as needed basis. I am there for you if needed from inspection to delivery.
I am able to offer the following services.
The Crew Agency:
From a database of licensed and experienced crew, we can interview and submit candidates that fully fit your requirement. As an experienced captain, who better to submit candidates for your approval.
Yacht Documentation:
Re-flagging; Corporate formation; Documentation; and Maritime Law; are all specialist fields better left to the experts. I can put you in touch with those experts and leave you to find the ‘best of the best’ people to assist you in those specialized tasks. I have been involved in arranging documentation services for almost every sale I have made. Also, for larger vessels, I recommend using a Maritime Attorney, who will guide you through all aspects regarding taxation and legal issues that are relevant.
Yacht Insurance:
I can recommend named specialists in the field for you to discuss all your insurance needs. It is important to consult with specialists familiar with the style of vessel you are buying. Generally clients have their own Insurers, but if they need recommendations I can help.
Yacht Finance:
There are numerous companies specializing in yacht finance, and I will recommend those experienced companies best able to match your needs in the size you are searching for. Most clients have made arrangements for finance before they start looking, but occassionaly financing has advantages.
Yacht Surveys:
I will be pleased to recommend and put you in direct contact with those specialist surveyors most familiar with the type of boat that interests you most. From sailing yachts large and small, to sportfishing yachts to mega-yachts, not every surveyor specializes in every type of vessel, so it is essential to choose your surveyor carefully.
In all cases of large yacht documention, insurance, finance, and surveying, you should choose the provider that best suits your needs. I can provide a recommendation list for you to start that process with confidence.
Yacht Management:
For owners of larger yachts, I/we can provide all elements of yacht management from payroll control; crew hiring; yard co-ordination; weather routing; international re-fuelling; winterizing and storarge; design consultancy; to brokerage. We are not a management company per se’, but can assist where needed, with expert knowledge.
Delivery Services:
Whether shipping vessels via commercial transport to international destinations or having smaller yachts sailed by competant crew, I have personally dealt with all facets of delivery, from mega yacht via Dockwise transport to trans-oceanic sailing deliveries, I can advise and co-ordinate your options and alternatives. During my brokerage career I have made shipping and/or delivery arrangements for all sorts of brokerage boats ranging in size from 63’ to 140’.
Yacht Consultancy with Ocean Yachting International:
For the client who is new to yacht ownership, or who is resticted by time, I offer my services as a consultant to co-ordinate and define the issues that most concern you.
With a background of experience ranging from boat-building and design to captain and yacht broker, I am sure that my diverse experience will be of assistance to you whether buying a large sail-boat for Caribbean cruising or searching for a mega-yacht capable of world ranging cruising and charter. My captaining and brokerage experince run parallel, with experience in both fields ranging for 50’ to 150’, with current projects ranging from an 85’ sailing yacht to a 190’ motor yacht.
My goal is not to built the largest brokerage business, but rather to continue to create a word-class brokerage of a size whereby I have a small but loyal client base. I would be pleased to assist or advise you.
