MIAMI BOAT SHOW, COME and GONE, TEXAS SHOW COMING, START of YEAR REPORT

Miami 2008 was a challenge for organizers and participants due to a stormy few day leading up to opening day. Rain and wind on the eve of the Show had every-one struggling to get things in place, but all the effort paid off when Opening Day turned into a Florida winter day that was extraordinarily kind to every-one, including our visitors. Rain on Sunday was a cause for concern, but overall, “not too bad” was the general comment.

Yacht & Brokerage Show
The Yacht & Brokerage Show

Miami Beach, Florida

'Spectacular Motor Yachts' was the most obvious theme, and after the deals are done, there will be some terrific brokerage deals available for buyers, especially US and European buyers. With the Miami Show being the last truly giant Show until Fort Lauderdale, those sellers hoping to have closed a deal in February will begin pressing their broker's to get something done A.S.A.P.

The range of brokerage vessels over 75 feet was exceptional, and as sellers who are going 'up' in size see new delivery dates getting closer, there are deals to be made for buyers, especially with the large yachts for sale.

Miami Show was a great opportunity personally, with 2 large sail-boat brokerage projects going well, and contracts expected on a 74 footer and a Burger motor yacht. The market is very 'hot' for buyers and it is also very good for realistic sellers. Yachts realistically priced to sell are finding knowledgeable buyers, and that is a good thing, as far as I am concerned.

Status Quo
142' Richmond, Status Quo

For me, the Boat of the Show was the new-build from B.C., the 142' tri-deck motor yacht STATUS QUO. The 4th in the series from the builder, it is a yacht with all the equipment and space for great cruising for either Owners, guests or charters, and for any-one considering a 'pocket' sized motor yacht, with all the amenities, please call me about STATUS QUO. Built in North America, Built to Class and MCA, she is a wonderful boat.

Chartering is a very healthy market at the moment for us, and is frequently being used by buyers as a way to research the yacht market. It is also an extraordinary vacation and one that must be experienced first hand. I have a great client from Texas who will be staring his third large yacht charter with me in just two years.

MONALIZA
MONALIZA, Large Motor Yacht Sold by Mike Sharpe, now for Charter

In late December I sold the 140' MARTHA ANN (now MONALIZA) and as I write this, she is being readied for charter; over the next few months in the Bahamas and Caribbean, and the around mid-year, she will be in the Med for a busy season. She is one of the most popular charter yachts, and under new ownership, we expect even greater things for our charter guests. Please contact me for further information. As of now, I will be focusing on a 'first' for us, as we head to the Texas International Boat Show in Corpus Christi. That Show starts April 24th, so mark your calendar.

We will have a large display lounge, and plan to meet clients there, without the hustle and bustle of the larger Show's. It also gives me and my associates a chance to 'enjoy' the Show and have a look around ourselves, something that is almost impossible at Monaco, Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. So please, if you would like to come by and chat about large yachts and even smaller boats, we are experts in all fields and would be pleased to get the opportunity to discuss a current or future project. Don't forget to inquire about charter!

2008 has kicked of with a bang! We are close to finalizing building contracts for a true mega-yacht, over 200', and are expecting to have closed a 155' motor yacht as this is written.

Well that is my report on the first 60 days of 2008. Everything seems to be in place for an even better year than 2007, which was exceptional, to say the least.

Please call me if I can be of assistance, but an E-mail is just as good.

Cheers for now,

Mike
