MIAMI BOAT SHOW, COME and GONE, TEXAS SHOW COMING, START of YEAR REPORT Miami 2008 was a challenge for organizers and participants due to a stormy few day leading up to opening day. Rain and wind on the eve of the Show had every-one struggling to get things in place, but all the effort paid off when Opening Day turned into a Florida winter day that was extraordinarily kind to every-one, including our visitors. Rain on Sunday was a cause for concern, but overall, “not too bad” was the general comment.
The range of brokerage vessels over 75 feet was exceptional, and as sellers who are going 'up' in size see new delivery dates getting closer, there are deals to be made for buyers, especially with the large yachts for sale. Miami Show was a great opportunity personally, with 2 large sail-boat brokerage projects going well, and contracts expected on a 74 footer and a Burger motor yacht. The market is very 'hot' for buyers and it is also very good for realistic sellers. Yachts realistically priced to sell are finding knowledgeable buyers, and that is a good thing, as far as I am concerned.
Chartering is a very healthy market at the moment for us, and is frequently being used by buyers as a way to research the yacht market. It is also an extraordinary vacation and one that must be experienced first hand. I have a great client from Texas who will be staring his third large yacht charter with me in just two years.
2008 has kicked of with a bang! We are close to finalizing building contracts for a true mega-yacht, over 200', and are expecting to have closed a 155' motor yacht as this is written. Well that is my report on the first 60 days of 2008. Everything seems to be in place for an even better year than 2007, which was exceptional, to say the least. Please call me if I can be of assistance, but an E-mail is just as good. Cheers for now, Mike Back to the Yacht News Page. |
