Sailing background since 1973. I began my professional sailing career leading to Captaining large sailing yachts and motor yachts in 1973, after a successful background racing dinghy and Olympic classes in Australia as well as ocean racing classes. I have cruised extensively as Captain in large sailing and motor yachts World-wide, including the Pacific, Atlantic and Caribbean amongst other areas. In delivering and sailing large yachts around the World, I have become aware of the special features and requirements of these large vessels as they relate to seaworthiness, quality and practicality. Delivering large yachts across ocean’s safely and economically has given me a unique perspective as to what features are especially applicable to these large yachts, be they power or sail. With well over 200,000 ocean miles to my credit, any of my experience with motor yachts and sailing yachts is available to you should you require information as to what sort of large yacht works best for you.

I am able and qualified to assist you in your search for a new motor or sailing yacht, regarding the pro’s and con’s of brokerage, new construction, or the re-fit of an existing yacht, as well as assist you if your interest in chartering a yacht for first hand experience, whether power or sail.

With the great variances in yachts ranging from explorer and expedition yachts through, to luxurious motor and traditional sailing yachts, I am available to assist you in suggesting choices that will best suit your requirements. This is based on my own knowledge and the experience I draw brokering a large range of vessels from FEADSHIP to PERINI. My direct contact and association with the leading designers, including Sparkman & Stephens, De Voogt, Ron Holland, David Pendrick and Tony Castro amongst others will assist you in this area.

Our resident Aussie began working as a professional Skipper in 1973, and since then has sailed well over 200,000 miles World-wide as a Captain of both power and sail. He began racing in Sydney as a junior sailor in 1958.

With numerous long passages in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and with his trans-ocean experience ranging between 46' and 140', in racing yachts, cruising yachts and mega-yachts, Mike's hands-on offshore experience has always been beneficial to his clients search for the 'right yacht'. Having run yachts throughout the Mediterranean, Pacific, Caribbean and U.S., he is also an experienced source of information to his associates.

During 30 plus years in the industry he has been involved in new builds, project management, re-fits and brokerage. Presently Mike has listings ranging from large sailing and motor yacht new construction, to traditional motor yachts, and is currently working on proposals for 50m yachts, both power and sail. He has sold both power and sailing yachts and is 2004's 'National Broker of the Year'. Mike's vast range of experience with all aspects of the industry, from recreational private vessel usage to charter and commercial interests, will benefit clients searching for the 'right boat', or just sourcing information in line with their future plans.

Mike began sailing professionally after a successful racing career in dinghies and offshore yachts. Mike continues racing single handed dinghies in Fort Lauderdale's Mercury fleet, with occasional deliveris to keep the salt water coursing through his veins.

His international association with various yards and designers is useful whether discussing new construction or brokerage vessels. If considering a 'new-build project', for power or sail, or starting a search for your next vessel, what-ever size, please call Mike if you would like to talk to an experienced yachtsman/broker.

"I can be contacted directly on my GSM mobile or e-mail. I look forward to assisting you in all yachting matters, and hope to provide interesting and informed answers to you questions".

 Yacht Broker Michael Streeter

Michael Streeter brings well over 2 decades of offshore experience to Ocean Yachting International (O.Y.I.) and his clients, with a solid background as Captain, Ships Engineer and of project management.

Originally from Australia, Michael had his first experience of offshore sailing in the 70's during offshore passages in the rough and tumble off the Australian East Coast. That was followed in 1983 by several seasons as Ships Engineer is the US and Med after which he upgraded to a Captain's ticket and took over as Captain on a 90' Burger, a job he held for many years. He worked as Captain aboard a 124' Delta motor yacht and most recently spent a year as Captain aboard a 130' Westport, before he was head-hunted for his experience by Mike Sharpe of O.Y.I. He has cruised extensively along the east coast from The Keys to New England and Canada as well as time in the Bahamas and Caribbean. He has completed several trans-Atlantic crossings, spending summers cruising in the Mediterranean from Gibraltar to Turkey.

After skippering the Delta, Michael moved ashore and was a Stabilizer Commissioning Engineer for Quantum Marine of Ft. Lauderdale. This required frequent travel to domestic and international shipyards to oversee the initial startup of the Roll Control Stabilizer and Zero Speed Systems onboard many of the newest and largest super yachts. Much of this work was in the Pacific Northwest, the Southern US and Europe.

Michael's strong electrical skills and engineering background have led him to be actively involved in new construction projects as well as several yacht refits. His Captaining and engineering background, combined with his many miles of cruising and hands-on experience make him well qualified to assist and guide brokerage clients to confidently choose their ideal large yacht, either power or sail. Whether it is indeed a brokerage vessel, especially if it involves a re-fit project, or a new build, Michael and the team at O.Y.I. are experienced in assisting the client, whatever the choices being made.

You can contact Michael at Ocean Yachting International in the Fort Lauderdale office at either 954 684-7897, 954 330-6009 or e-mail at MJ@SharpeYachts.com.
