Sailing background since 1973. I began my professional sailing career leading to Captaining large sailing yachts and motor yachts in 1973, after a successful background racing dinghy and Olympic classes in Australia as well as ocean racing classes. I have cruised extensively as Captain in large sailing and motor yachts World-wide, including the Pacific, Atlantic and Caribbean amongst other areas. In delivering and sailing large yachts around the World, I have become aware of the special features and requirements of these large vessels as they relate to seaworthiness, quality and practicality. Delivering large yachts across ocean’s safely and economically has given me a unique perspective as to what features are especially applicable to these large yachts, be they power or sail. With well over 200,000 ocean miles to my credit, any of my experience with motor yachts and sailing yachts is available to you should you require information as to what sort of large yacht works best for you.
I am able and qualified to assist you in your search for a new motor or sailing yacht, regarding the pro’s and con’s of brokerage, new construction, or the re-fit of an existing yacht, as well as assist you if your interest in chartering a yacht for first hand experience, whether power or sail.
With the great variances in yachts ranging from explorer and expedition yachts through, to luxurious motor and traditional sailing yachts, I am available to assist you in suggesting choices that will best suit your requirements. This is based on my own knowledge and the experience I draw brokering a large range of vessels from FEADSHIP to PERINI. Mike Sharpe, Bio
Our resident Aussie began working as a professional Skipper in 1973, and since then has sailed well over 200,000 miles World-wide as a Captain of both power and sail. He began racing in Sydney as a junior sailor in 1958.
With numerous long passages in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and with his trans-ocean experience ranging between 46' and 140', in racing yachts, cruising yachts and mega-yachts, Mike's hands-on offshore experience has always been beneficial to his clients search for the 'right yacht'. Having run yachts throughout the Mediterranean, Pacific, Caribbean and U.S., he is also an experienced source of information to his associates.
During 30 plus years in the industry he has been involved in new builds, project management, re-fits and brokerage. Presently Mike has listings ranging from large sailing and motor yacht new construction, to traditional motor yachts, and is currently working on proposals for 50m yachts, both power and sail. He has sold both power and sailing yachts and is 2004's 'National Broker of the Year'. Mike's vast range of experience with all aspects of the industry, from recreational private vessel usage to charter and commercial interests, will benefit clients searching for the 'right boat', or just sourcing information in line with their future plans.
Mike began sailing professionally after a successful racing career in dinghies and offshore yachts. Mike continues racing single handed dinghies in Fort Lauderdale's Mercury fleet, with occasional deliveris to keep the salt water coursing through his veins.
His international association with various yards and designers is useful whether discussing new construction or brokerage vessels.
